澤田です。

postgresql.confで
tcpip_socket = trueと設定したら無事接続されました。

ちなみにpostgresql.confではなく、postmaster.optsに
/usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -S -i
としても上手くいきました。

ですが、
http://search.net-newbie.com/pgsql/runtime-config.html
によりお薦めされないようですので、
silent_mode = trueは設定しませんでした。
